Julia is originally from Germany but lived in the UK for ten years. She & her partner Robin decided to move to The Netherlands in 2020 during the pandemic from the UK. In today’s episode Julia shares her brief experience of navigating the UK’s NHS during pregnancy and finding her feet in the Dutch maternity system. Working with a lovely set of midwives in Utrecht, their preparation for their birth with both ACCESS & HypnoBirthing courses with me. Julia shares how she moved from being fearful about birth and wanting a C-section to moving to the other end of the spectrum of wanting an unmedicated vaginal birth to having to plan a C-section birth unexpectedly. This is Part 1 of her Pregnancy journey. Park 2 will be released on the 15th of October 2021.
The book that empowered her and Rob – Giving Birth like a feminist by Milli Hill.
At 27 mins of the conversation Julia mentions ECV – External Cephalic Version – a procedure used to turn the baby from a breech position or side-lying (transverse) position into a head-down (vertex) position before labor begins. When successful, version makes it possible for you to try a vaginal birth. In continuation, Julia mentions Moxa Technique – which is Moxibustion – a form of heat therapy that can be done by a well-trained acupuncturist & traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.
Mother assisted gentle c-section can be planned only at certain medicalized situations. Please speak to your care provider about it. Julia had hers at Diakonessenhuis https://www.diakonessenhuis.nl/folders/caesarean-section
